Going Organic is a Pretty Big Deal
- Chukar Cherries has been a longtime producer of unforgettable chocolate and cherry confections for 30 years now. Based in Washington State, Chukar’s headquarters lies in a valley lush with farming and agricultural splendor. Recently, excitement filled the flagship location in Prosser, WA with the announcement of a new line of Certified Organic products. With less than 1% of US farm land holding an Organic certification, it is exciting to find Organic cherries right here in Washington State.
- What does Organic mean? Many products are labeled “organic.” Products that are naturally farmed and raised without things like man-made pesticides or enhancements can garner this label. However to be Certified Organic first there is a lengthy process of transition involved. Then a specific set of standards must be met and maintained. These standards and rules give consumers assuredness that Certified Organic products are monitored, inspected and regulated.
- Chukar has always produced products without additives or preservatives. Using only nature’s clock, Chukar captures the purest form of cherries from the orchards for their customers. “We are committed to being as organic as possible. Sourcing locally and domestically allows us to provide the best possible product,” says Pam Montgomery, founder of Chukar Cherries. For decades, Chukar has partnered with local growers. Unknown to many Chukar fans some of these orchards are now Certified Organic which makes their cherries not only rare but unique by US farming standards as well. Using an organic domestic approach takes more time, energy and money. But the product speaks for itself.
- The new Certified Organic product line boasts a number of unique flavors and package combinations. New items include three varieties of chocolate covered cherries with delectable flavors like: Vanilla Chocolate Rainiers, Orange Chocolate Tarts and Chocolate Chipotle Cherries. Also available are organic naturally dried Tart and Rainier cherries with no sugar added.
